Hi! I began work as a doula in 2015 and together with my business partner, Kate DeWolf, opened AthensBorn in 2016. We've been working with pregnant and postpartum families ever since. I also provide postpartum doula care, placenta encapsulation, and I teach childbirth education classes.
Birth is one of the most impactful and vulnerable things a family will ever do, and one of my goals as a doula is to provide compassionate, non-judgmental support throughout the process. I believe that each family we work with can enjoy their birth and look back on it as an empowering experience. My pre-birth-work career as a campus minister right here in Athens taught me how to counsel and hold space for people through major life transitions. Raising my own 2 children has helped me continue learning how to do that with patience and without judgment. I don't always succeed, but children are excellent (and persistent) teachers ;) I also carry with me my personal experience of coming out later in life, and all the growth I experienced through divorce, learning how to be a single parent, and becoming a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Everything my life has been brought me to this place, and I'm thrilled to support others throughout their own life transitions. Trust me when I say you are not alone.
