We're excited to offer last-minute labor doula support to families giving birth in-hospital in Athens! This is a great option if a family finds themselves in need of a doula, but doesn't already have one lined up for their estimated due date. Last-minute doula services are not a replacement for a full-service, traditional labor doula, but can be a great option in a pinch!
Why use a last-minute doula?
- If a full-service doula is not available for your estimated due date
- If you put off hiring a doula 'til the last minute but you still want labor support
- If you just moved to the area and haven't had time to hire a doula yet
- If you had labor support lined up (from a sibling, friend, parent, etc) but they're now unavailable
- If you would appreciate the support of a doula while in labor, but would also appreciate saving some moolah
- If you're already in labor and realizing you could really use continuous labor support to get through it
FAQ
How do I let you know I'd like a doula at my birth?
Text us at 706-223-0808. We will check our doula availability and get back with you if we have someone available.
Is a doula guaranteed?
No, sorry! Our doulas may be at a birth already, or out of town and unable to come. If you'd like to secure guaranteed doula support at your birth, please visit our Labor Doula Packages page to learn more.
What if a doula is available?
You'll sign a services agreement and fill out a short form, pay for your last-minute doula, and we'll go from there!
Can I sign up BEFORE I go into labor?
Yes, please feel free to do all the paperwork ahead of time! That will give us an idea of who we might expect to be contacting us and when. That way, if a last-minute doula is available when you're in labor, all you'll have to do is pay. ***This still does not guarantee doula availability, but it should raise the chances that we'll be ready!***
How long until you arrive at my birth?
Your last-minute doula will come as fast as possible, but it may take a couple of hours before we're by your side.
Can a last-minute doula labor with me at home?
No, we can only provide labor support once you arrive at the hospital.
Which hospitals* do you come to?
St. Mary's Hospital
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center
*Support at other hospital locations may be available upon request.
When is the payment due and how do I pay?
Payment is due after you've been admitted to the hospital in labor and before your doula arrives at the hospital. It's easy to pay, just click here to go to the AthensBorn shop. Add "Last-Minute Doula Services" to your cart, go to check-out, then voila! You're done!
What all does last-minute doula service entail?
We'll arrive at the hospital and stay with you until about 1 hour after your little one is born. During that time, we'll provide physical and emotional support in whatever way works best for you. We practice non-judgmental and compassionate care, we believe in providing evidence-based information to help you make informed choices about your care, and we give the best hip squeezes in town.
What about prenatal appointments, email/phone support during pregnancy, and postpartum support?
Last-minute doula support is limited to the hospital portion of your birth only, but you'll be welcomed with open arms to our ongoing in-person postpartum support groups after your little one is born. If you'd like to get to know your doula before your birth, have prenatal appointments (virtual and in-person) to talk about your birth wishes, have access to phone/email support from your doula throughout your pregnancy, and have an in-home postpartum visit, we recommend our Labor Doula Package.
