*** Doula Services in the time of COVID19 ***
We've heard a lot of questions floating around, people wondering whether or not they should hire a doula during the current global pandemic. "Is it still worth it?"
The short answer is simply...yes <3 The longer answer is...yes, because... a doula is still the person who will be able to help you prepare for your birth as best you possibly can. Helping families prepare for the unknown is not new for us. That's always been the job. A doula will calm your fears, help you navigate this rapidly changing landscape, find new classes and resources when you don't know where to look or which is the right one for you, and guide you step-by-step through what you might expect over the coming weeks and months. A doula will still be there to help you through your labor, your birth, and your 4th trimester. Our clients feel prepared, they feel strong, they feel ready for whatever birth brings.
A doula is *still* the best person to help you create a beautiful, peaceful, empowered birth experience for yourself. That is the essence of doula work...and it's something that hasn't changed. We're still here for you, no matter what.
As of May 2020, both hospitals in Athens consider doulas to be an essential part of the birth team. This means a doula does not count as a visitor and that birthing people will not have to choose between their partner/loved one and their doula.

Apprentice Labor Doula Services
Investment for Apprentice Labor Doula Services:
AthensBorn is proud to work with doulas-in-training! Our rate for Apprentice Labor Doula Services is $400. This rate includes all the same services offered by our experienced doulas, as well as the same access to additional AthensBorn services (breastfeeding support, placenta encapsulation, postpartum care, etc). An Apprentice Doula is a great option for families who want compassionate support and are comfortable working with a doula who is still in the process of acquiring their certification and gaining experience in the field.
All AthensBorn Apprentices are backed up by Becca and Kate, in the event that the Apprentice is unable to attend the birth (due to illness or emergency). They are also supported with resources, experience, and informational support throughout a client’s pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
AthensBorn currently has an apprentice team taking clients from February - April 2021: Christine and Emily! They practice a partnership model of doula care like Kate and Becca, and are excited to start working with Athens-area families.
